Local Love from Paper Luxe

Feb 18, 2022by Carli Ricker

As a local business ourself, we love supporting other Washington based brands, artists, and creators! By placing items in the store from local brands, we know we are getting the best quality products because more often than not, we know the very people who created them! So show some love with us to a handful of our favorite local brands.

Splendor and Stone

If you've browsed the jewelry section of Paper Luxe, you may have noticed we're positively obsessed with all the earrings to come from Splendor and Stone. Designed and created in a Tacoma studio, Splendor and Stone has an earring for every style and mood. Whether that's staying classic with a pair of Huggie Hoops or adding some funky flair to a look with the Large Daisy Dot Earrings, you're sure to feel and look good.

 Wax & Wool

Just several miles across the freeway from the Fircrest Paper Luxe sits the studio that creates one of our favorite candle lines: Wax & Wool. Based in North Puyallup, these 100% soy candles are made in small batches and hand poured to ensure each one is of the highest quality. With delightful scents like the woodsy pines of the Evergreen State candle and the bright, sweet citrus filled Fresh Squeezed candle, you’ll find the 50 hour burn time just isn’t long enough!

Yardia

Prints are an easy and effortless way to decorate your home with local touches. A few of our favorite prints are from the brand Yardia, which show off the best of Washington in watercolor designs. The Gig Harbor Art Print highlights the unique beauty of all four seasons through different parks while the Pacific Northwest Wildflower Art Print displays just some of the natural wonders of our great state.

Seattle Chocolate

Women owned and always delicious, Seattle Chocolate bars have quickly become a favorite of both customers and staff (break time snack, anyone?). With whimsical packaging designed by independent artists and innovative flavors like the honey nut cereal You Are My Sunshine Truffle Bar, Seattle Chocolate also sets itself apart by its actions. Each bar is made with ethically sourced chocolate and 10% of the net profits from each bar is donated to Girls Inc., a nonprofit encouraging girls to be “Strong, Smart, and Bold.”

253 Books

While some may think all the action and adventure is in Seattle, anyone who’s flipped through a 253 book knows how that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Looking for some Instagram worthy backdrops? Let the Tacoma Mural Tour be your guide. Running out of ideas for weekend activities with the kids? Here’s a list of 50 Activities for Kids in Tacoma. These books also give back to the 253 by donating one dollar from the sale of every book to St. Leo’s Food Bank.

Handmade La Conner

As the name implies, all the products from Handmade La Conner are hand-made in small batches. Not only do these products smell and feel luxurious, but they work! By removing dirt, washing away germs, and moisturizing, it’s no wonder The Eucalyptus Hand Wash has become a signature product.

Stickers Northwest

Stickers may just be one of the simplest and most fun ways to show some Washington love, and Stickers Northwest has all the PNW themed designs you could want. Slap one on the back of your car to let everyone on the road know you’d rather be camping with the Camp Life Sticker. Or, let everyone in the coffee shop know you mean business by displaying the Death Before Decaf Sticker on your laptop.

MCreativeJ

Get your craft on with embroidery kits from Washington born-and-raised artist, Melissa Galbraith. Designed for beginners, these kits are a great start for anyone wanting to learn the basics of embroidery or just looking to have a creative outlet. With instructions and all the tools you’ll need you can create an adorable Mushroom Trio, sweet and Colorful Rainbow, or beautiful Mountain and Tulip Landscape

Mountaineers Books

You know it’s going to be a good day when you can see Mt. Rainier off in the distance. To help you take full advantage of the natural beauty of our state, the alpine nonprofit The Mountaineers have created an impressive collection of guidebooks. With decades of expertise, The Mountaineers have books for all levels of hikers and terrains like Day Hiking Mount Rainier, 2nd Edition, Urban Trails: Tacoma, and Best Hikes with Kids: Western Washington

Head Hood

Wear your PNW love with pride! These cozy beanies come from Head Hood, a Tacoma based apparel company, and are some of our most popular local pieces. Head and Hood designs range from subtle nods to local icons like The Dome Beanie to bold letters claiming cities like the Gig Harbor Beanie

 Old Town Delights

It’s hard to find a treat more local than the caramels of Old Town Delights. Made right in Tacoma, this sweets company makes an assortment of sugary goods but it might be best known for its creamy, chewy caramels. Available in the classic flavor or with a dusting of sea salt, these caramales, in our opinion, are always a good idea whether as a gift or for yourself.

Sowing Ground

At Paper Luxe we, of course, love all things paper and beautiful which is why we adore the stationary sets from Sowing Ground. Crafted on sturdy paper, the designs on each page seem almost too pretty to write on. Most letter writing sets have a nature theme design like the Cactus Print or Midcentury Sun Beam sets.

Driscoll Designs

Fall in love with the whimsical and charming cards from Tacoma artist Angela Skeldon’s Driscoll Designs. With themes ranging from a Champagne Graduation Card to a cheerful Lemon Cake Birthday Card there’s a card for everyone and every occasion.
