One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer! Happy Birthday

The Hook
Detroit, Michigan • 1959
Legendary musician John Lee Hooker stands outside Joe’s Record Shop on Detroit’s Hastings Street, where he recorded with store owner and producer Joe Von Battle in the backroom studio. Born in the Mississippi Delta—birthplace of the blues—John Lee Hooker left home at 14 and worked his way north, arriving in Detroit in 1943. There, he quickly became a fixture in the nightclubs of Black Bottom, a neighborhood known for its vibrant music scene. Known as “King of the Boogie,” Hooker’s powerful guitar, unmistakable voice, and driving rhythms earned him multiple Grammy Awards. With songs like, “Boom Boom,” “Boogie Chillen,” and “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” John Lee Hooker remains one of the most influential musicians of all time. In 1991, he was inducted into the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
